About us

Our story

The Hope Church story can’t be understood without a real sense of God being at work and going before us in amazing and surprising ways! A number of local people had been praying for a while with a growing sense that God wanted to do something new in the area. In the Autumn of 2018 a few people started to gather to pray and this resulted in a small team of people committed to starting a new church for the community. Hope Church started meeting in Shirley Community Primary school in May 2019 and then officially ‘launched’ as a church on 8th September 2019.

As a church our passion is to see Chesterton and beyond transformed by the world-changing reality of God’s love in Jesus Christ. We feel excited to be on this adventure with God and we’d love you to join us!

Hope Church is an Anglican church apart of St George’s parish and a sister congregation to St George’s parish church. The Revd Andy Atkins is the minister who came at the invitation of Bishop Stephen of Ely.

Our vision

We exist to be a community that worships Jesus with a vibrant faith, lives as a family in real community, love others with a radical love and sets its hope fully on the new world that Jesus will bring on His return.

Our vision for Hope Church is to be a church for everyone. To be welcoming and accessible and valuing equally everyone in our community.
As a church we want to follow Jesus Christ with our whole lives, putting Him first and knowing him better, experiencing his grace and enjoying His presence so that our faith impacts who we are and everything we say and do.

We want to be a church of passionate, growing disciples who are devoted to God’s Word and to each other. We want to share our lives, serve our neighbours and be devoted to being Christ’s alternative society for the world.

We know we can’t possibly do this in our own strength so we rely and depend on God the Holy Spirit who lives within us, who gives us the power to love, live and speak for Him.

We want others to know and follow Jesus too and to introduce our community to the wonderful message of hope Jesus Christ brings. For some it will be the reviving of a dormant faith, for others it will mean coming alive for the very first time. We want to awaken people to Jesus Christ and equip them to live for Him in their everyday lives.

We believe the good news of Jesus is for everyone and that God loves each of us just as we are in all our brokenness. We also know that being a follower of Jesus brings deep transformation in our lives as we seek to live out Christ’s better story for the world. So, whatever your situation, whatever your age, whatever you believe and whatever your stage of life you are at - come and be part of the family. YOU ARE WELCOME!
